QLD Smoke Alarm Legislation
What you need to know about the new Queensland smoke alarm laws.
Key Requirements:
- Interconnected alarms: All smoke alarms must be interconnected so when one activates, they all sound.
- Photoelectric alarms: Must be photoelectric (AS 3786-2014 compliant) and not contain an ionization sensor.
- Hardwired or 10-year battery: Must be either hardwired or powered by a non-removable 10-year battery.
- Placement requirements: Alarms must be installed in every bedroom, in hallways that connect bedrooms, and on every level.
- Deadline: All Queensland homes must be compliant by December 31, 2026.

Step 2: Installation
The electrician installs on the agreed date. The customer pays the electrician directly upon completion of the installation.
Step 3: Certification
We provide you with a receipt and Certificate of Compliance, ensuring your home meets all QLD legislation requirements.
