QLD Smoke Alarm Legislation

What you need to know about the new Queensland smoke alarm laws.

Key Requirements:

  • Interconnected alarms: All smoke alarms must be interconnected so when one activates, they all sound.
  • Photoelectric alarms: Must be photoelectric (AS 3786-2014 compliant) and not contain an ionization sensor.
  • Hardwired or 10-year battery: Must be either hardwired or powered by a non-removable 10-year battery.
  • Placement requirements: Alarms must be installed in every bedroom, in hallways that connect bedrooms, and on every level.
  • Deadline: All Queensland homes must be compliant by December 31, 2026.

Ready for your quote? Get in touch by email at support@powersmartco.com.au or by phone at (03) 7064 8455. To secure your appointment time, a small, one-off booking fee of $34 is applied upfront.

Step 2: Installation

The electrician installs on the agreed date. The customer pays the electrician directly upon completion of the installation.

Step 3: Certification

We provide you with a receipt and Certificate of Compliance, ensuring your home meets all QLD legislation requirements.
